'Tis the season...for chocolate.

"If any man has drunk a little too deeply from the cup of physical pleasure; if he has spent too much time at his desk that should have been spent asleep; if his fine spirits have become temporarily dulled; if he finds the air too damp, the minutes too slow, and the atmosphere too heavy to withstand; if he is obsessed by a fixed idea which bars him from any freedom of thought: if he is any of these poor creatures, we say, let him be given a good pint of amber-flavored chocolate...and he will experience a marvel."

For some reason this seemed fitting at the moment.

Imogen Heap I like, but no I don't like you

>> Tuesday, August 18, 2009

I am a fan of Imogen Heap's song Hide and Seek. I don't know if it is the harmonics or just that it is so different from everything else I listen to. I am not, however, a fan of the Game and Jay-z butchering the song. I don't like Jason Derulo using part of the song in his either. It just bothers me.

Imogen Heaps lastest release.

Whats Happening In My Life...

>> Sunday, August 9, 2009

With only a short while left, summer vacation has flown by. Here's an update in what is going on in my life...

Currently listening to Lucky by Jason Mraz, which I'll have you know that part of that video was shot in Prague, which I have visited!

Speaking of Prague, these are two paintings I like of that city.

I have been working all summer on a project at Manchester. I have been trying to make a model of the Eel River Watershed. I am getting close to the finish, but let's just say it has been kicking my butt. Besides that I haven't really been doing much art stuff and it is driving me nuts. I need to do more but between work, driving to Manchester and other odd things that keep coming up I am struggling to make time!!! There is a show coming up that would be good to enter so I NEED to do it.

I really love Lake Michigan. There are some new sunset photos on my flickr account if you haven't seen them.

I am really beginning to like soccer. I watch it a lot at school and it scares me.

I think this dairy queen commercial is hilarious. I really just like the guy's thought process haha. Seriously, DQ always has the best commercials.

So ya, in a quick sum that is what's happening in my life.

Super Heroes

>> Monday, July 20, 2009

So I was driving to the coffee shop today in order to use the internet because the interent at my house is down and super heroes popped into my head. I said to my self, do I like super heroes because they are invincible and I kind of wish I was like them? Or do I like super heroes because they seem invincible but they all have weaknesses like us regular people? They aren't perfect. Who knows....I can't decide.

Update: Summer Goals

After about a month since my post for summer goals, I think an update is due for all 3 of my loyal blog readers, thank you.

1) I have started A book. That isn't going so well.

2) Still nooooo idea how Freschetta does it. Blows my mind.

3) I have been running, but not 4-5 times a week. I'll work on that.

4) New music...check.

5) Writing on this blog? Well prior to tonight, epic fail. Maybe I have created my second one...maybe not.

6) Not many pictures yet.

7) Thus far, I have been to Lake Michigan once this summer. Who wants to go?

8) Indians have won over 20 games. Lets play the over/under game. Indians will win 70 games this year. Any takers?

9) Not enough.

10) Yep.

11) Kind of.

12) They called me the grill master this past weekend, let's just leave it at that.

13) Haven't made it there yet. Why? I don't know either.

14) Yep.

15) Completed both.

16-18) Not at all.

19 I have been working on my project for the past 3 weeks. Still going.

20) Searching for ideas. Hmmm.

21) I do my best.

At this point in the summer I give myself a C to C+.

Brilliant! or Creepy?

Is this brilliant marketing or just a bit creepy? I am leaning towards great idea. Who wouldn't double check how they were driving? At the same time I am pretty sure I would be a little freaked driving by a bleeding sign. Could just be me.

I'm spending my Saturday night renting a movie and drawing...pretty low key. On a different note, if I had to create a playlist of songs to put with my life this song would have to be in it somewhere, even if just the credits.

Three years ago at the Regional Track Meet I ran my best open 800 time of 2:00.04. After running three days in a row this week, I have come to realize oooooooooooh how I miss that speed and easy running.

How I used to feel running.

How I felt today. Enough said.

My Summer List

>> Wednesday, May 27, 2009

Having been out of school for close to a week, I think it is time I put together a summer to do list. It looks something like this:

1) Read 3 or 4 books...idk if this will happen. I have 1 book for sure, I just have a hard to finding books I get interested in.

2) Contemplating just how they put all that good tastingness into Freschetta Pizzas. Yes tastingness is a word, at least in my blog world.

3) Run 4-5 times a week.

4) Find lots of new music.

5) Write on this blog. Create a new blog. Post on that one too.

6) Take pictures. (BTW I had two pics favorited by people on my flickr.)

7) Visit Lake Michigan more than once.

8) Cheer my Indians to over 20 wins....someday soon.

9) Draw.

10) Laugh.

11) Visit friends.

12) Cook the family chicken again.

13) Visit Chicago!

14) Taste a new beer.

15) Go to the drive in theatre/strande theatre.

16) Fish. Learn to clean the fish.

17) Be daring and make like Andrew Zimmerman...try bizarre foods.

18) Try new coffee.

19) Draw more. Complete my project at the school.

20) Find a good b-day gift for my g/f.

21) Last and certainly NOT least, spend time with my family.

These pretty much sum up my list for the summer thus far...

I used to claim I didn't like John Mayer that much; however, the older I get the more I like him. There is just something about acoustic music and the emotion that artists put into their style of playing that I love. Here are two videos.

I really like the part around 3:30.
and...

Love it.

Yardwork...

The past two days have been full of it. It started by thatching the lawn on Monday night. This meant that a whole lot of picking grass up the next morning. My dad and I started at 9:30 and worked until about 1 picking up grass. Not done yet...since we already had the ground stirred up a bit and rain coming we decided it would be a good time to put fertilizer on. Not my ideal spring break, but it isn't so bad because it meant a couple things:
1) I stayed busy with something to do. I would much rather be working on something than do nothing....mmmm most of the time.

2) Spring is here. Which means college will be getting out soon and warmer weather is on the way:)

3) And with spring/summmer comes BBQ chicken. So my dad and I got out the new grills and got them ready.

Here are a few pics.

Just look at that concentration...intense.

Cher Ami, Who Knew? Really...

Who knew that pigeons are capable of flying with speeds up to 59 mph? It's true. Pigeons are able to fly crazy long distances...flights as long as 1800 km have been recorded during pigeon racing. You may be asking yourself what the f* is pigeon racing? Apparentley it kind of sort of is a big deal, or used to be in Europe. What I don't understand is how birds are used as a means of sending information. I get that pigeons have an innate homing ability but it blows my mind. I previously only imagined that air mail consisting of birds existed in the magical world of Harry Potter. It looks like we Muggles aren't so different after all.

A little known fact is that one pigeon has been awarded the Croix de Guerre or War Cross. In my opinion Cher Ami is probably the most badass bird in the history of pigeons. If you can dip, dodge, dive and duck flying bullets, still get shot through the breast, be blinded, have your leg hanging by a tendon and still fly 25 miles in 25 minutes that, ladies and gentlemen, is impressive.

So how did this post come about? I was for searching t-shirt designs and I came across a fun one. On it were drawings and phrases about birds. One said that pigeons can fly 100 mph. I thought no way that is possible, so I googled it leading me to Wikipedia. Idk, maybe pigeons really can fly that fast and I didn't find it. If this interested you at all, check out this link to wikipedia and scroll the pics. Other islands and continents have cooler pigeons. Sorry for the poor play on words there.
